What time does fasting and fajr start?
This video is two part of our ‘Seeking Fajr’ series pertaining to the correct time of Fajr. We wanted to take a closer look at what we are supposed to do as muslims when it comes to praying our morning salaah and when we start fasting. We took a unique approach and wanted you to take part in determining when the true fajr begins. We created a time lapse of a fajr and sunrise for 4 days during Ramadhaan. We wanted you to learn the description of fajr.
To view our timelapse of Fajr, please refer to our part 1 video –
In this part, we will be analysing the results we had collected from the first video (including the times of shaykh Badr al Utaibee) and will be drawing this topic to its logical conclusion. We drew our inspiration from something known as ‘Wisdom of the crowd’. We highly recommend that you refer to this video for more details about the compelling nature of crowd wisdom as it relates to our collective ability to estimate accurately. Link –
The time lapse of the fajr video with the accurate times on them will be uploaded soon, so please subscribe and press the bell button to receive notification of when that is done. This is the first of many videos to come regarding a variety of topics that concern the Muslim community. We ask Allah to make this easy for us to do and keep regular.
Please remember, this video wasn’t made to forward an agenda, but to take a collective look at this issue. So please keep comments civilised.

Starburst Challenge
We felt it would be exciting to try to replicate the ‘wisdom of the crowd’ phenomina on a jar of Starburst sweets. So we organised two experiments and competitions to test it. We have at our centre a jar of Starburst sweets. We need a large enough amount of people to give us their estimates to see if the average would add up to the exact amount, near enough or not at all.
There are two ways in which you can enter this competition. You can either look at the jar via our video above and make your guess from that, or you can come to our centre during our open hours, like at one of our lessons, lectures or events to see the jar for yourself and make the guess. If you make your guess via the video then you can enter for our £25 Amazon Voucher prize, but if you come to the centre you can enter for our £100 Amazon Voucher prize draw.
We will take the range of the closest 20% of answers and do a blind draw. The cut off date for this competition is 25th September. Then we will announce the winner via our Youtube channel and the results of the competition. So stay tuned and don’t miss the announcement.
